Hi ladies. It's that time of the year again. I always look forward to relaxer days mostly because I want to see my hair's progress. Though relaxer days are stressful for me and most hair bloggers I know, it's worth it in the end.
I prepped my hair as I always do a week before I relaxed and made sure there was little to no manipulation. I relaxed at 20 weeks post relaxer. Here's how it went down;
Detangled my hair with my fingers and a wide toothed comb.
Put my hair in 1 inch twists.
Based my scalp, top of my ears, edges and nape with vaseline to prevent relaxer burns and coated my already relaxed hair with olive oil.
I used Olive Oil Ors No-lye relaxer - normal which came with a free sheen spray.
I followed the instructions in mixing the relaxer and added half a cap of olive oil to slow down the relxer process.
I decided to try a different method in applying my relaxer this time instead of the usual half and half method which I always have problems with.
Starting from my middle, I applied the relaxer to my new growth only and then moved gradually to the rest of my hair. My edges and nape were the last.
It took me 20 minutes in total to apply and smoothen the relaxer and I realised this new method works well for me.
Washed the relaxer out with Dark and Lovely Neutralising Shampoo from my old kit 3 times and Ors Creamy Aloe shampoo twice. I left the shampoo on for 5 minutes the fifth time to be sure there was no trace of relaxer left.
Mid-Step protein treatment with Apoghee Keratin 2 minute Reconstructor for 5 minutes without heat.
Deep conditioned with Ors Replenishing Conditioner for 30 minutes with heat.
Rinsed with cold water and air dried.
Applied my leave-in; Mega Profective Leave-in Strengthener and Sealed with coconut oil.
For my length check, I applied Ors Moisturising Lotion that came in the kit and Organics Olive oil Smoother and Polisher Serum and straightened my hair.
I didn't retain much length and even though I didn't do a length check in February, I could tell. I was really looking forward to seeing my hair's growth but I guess my setback from last year is still hunting me.
I've decided that instead of been pitiful and sad I'd retrace my steps and find out where I made mistakes and correct them and hopefully see an improvement in my hair.
I did chop of my ends again though after the picture because I didn't like how scraggy they looked. At least the goodnews is my hair is getting fuller, looks healthier and I can say I'm fully texlaxed now.
